HERE ARE SOME WAYS IN WHICH THESE issues may SHOW UP IN YOUR LIFE:

Emotions feel out of control, and you don’t know how to manage your reactions.

You feel as though you are going through the motions without really feeling anything and it seems like life is passing you by.

You feel stuck amid a life transition.

You experienced hurt, pain, betrayal, and tragedy and pushed the reality away because it felt too unbearable to deal with.

You have difficulties trusting others because you’ve been hurt so deeply before.

You’ve experienced immense loss that you’re now afraid to show up fully because having a wall up feels safer and will make it easier to cope with the next loss.

You struggle with expressing yourself clearly and end up saying things that may feel hurtful or extreme to others.

You feel burned out by the hustle and having to meet excessive demands to prove you’re “good enough.”

You strive for perfection only to recognize that you become debilitated by the possibility of failure.

You have lost your sense of who you are or perhaps have always felt confused about who you are and what you might want in life.

You consistently make the “safe” decision because it’s predictable and there’s comfort in knowing you’ll get a certain outcome even though it’s not the outcome you long for.

You feel uncomfortable in your own skin and body.

Dr. Workman is passionate about helping her clients work on these issues. Contact her to see if her individual services might be a good fit for you.

Therapy Groups

Dr. Workman offers the following therapy groups through a secure telehealth platform:

The DBT Graduate Group consists of 3-8 adults who previously completed two full rounds of the DBT skills group and would benefit from additional support in applying the skills to their daily life. Each group session will include a mindfulness practice followed by peer-to-peer consultation on applying skills to various life situations. Groups focus on providing validation, reinforcement of skills use, and problem solving. Brief skills reviews are incorporated. However, this group is focused more on skills generalization and maintenance rather than skills instruction. The group requires a minimum 10 session commitment, with no more than 4 absences in those 10 sessions. If clinically appropriate, group members have the option to complete multiple 10-session rounds of the group.

To join the group, individuals must have a minimum of 2 months without engaging in any suicidal, self-injury, and physically aggressive behaviors, and refrain from these behaviors while in the group. They will also need to complete a 45-minute orientation session to review group limits and identify their goals for the group. The group can be added to current weekly individual therapy, or as step-down support while reducing individual sessions. Coordination of care and a treatment agreement between individual providers and Mindset Wellness and Consulting is required.

DBT GRADUATE GROUP

DBT skills groups are designed to provide comprehensive skills instruction across the four DBT skills modules: core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The goal of the group is to facilitate skills acquisition so that individuals can learn effective coping strategies, decrease harmful behaviors, and improve quality of life. The group is interactive, and the structure includes a mindfulness practice, homework review, skills instruction, and behavioral rehearsal.

To participate in the group, individuals must be in weekly individual therapy. Folks who are not receiving individual therapy through Mindset Wellness and Consulting will be required to complete up to three 45-minute intake, orientation, and commitment sessions prior to starting the group. Coordination of care and a treatment agreement between individual providers and Mindset Wellness and Consulting is required. The full course of skills instruction is 24 weeks, and each group is 90 minutes. Core mindfulness skills are reviewed for 2 weeks at the start of each new module. The distress tolerance module is 6 weeks, the emotion regulation module is 7 weeks, and the interpersonal effectiveness module is 5 weeks. Individuals must commit to attending the full 24-week course.

DBT SKILLS GROUP

The Shame Resilience Group is an 8-week group intended to help individuals understand their experience of shame, increase mindful experiencing of the emotion, and change their overall relationship to shame. The group combines psychoeducation, experiential reflections, in vivo exposure, and self-compassion exercises. This group may be helpful for folks who struggle with perfectionism, self-criticism, and genuine self-expression as well as those who feel that shame controls their lives. Each group is 75 minutes long and participants must commit to attending the full 8-week program. A 45-minute intake and orientation session are required prior to starting the group. If clinically indicated, individuals may be required to be in regularly scheduled individual therapy and agree to coordination of care between providers.

SHAME RESILIENCE GROUP

The Mindful Dating Group is an 8-week group designed to support those who are trying to bravely date. The group philosophy is embedded in evidence-based psychological theories and treatment modalities such as attachment theory, DBT, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based interventions. Topics covered include understanding your attachment patterns, managing dating anxiety, and exploring shame and vulnerability to help you better understand yourself in the dating context. The Mindful Dating Group is an experiential and skills-based support group open to female identified and non-binary individuals. Each group is 75 minutes long and participants must commit to attending the full 8-week program. A 45-minute intake and orientation session is required prior to starting the group. If clinically indicated, individuals may be required to be in regularly scheduled individual therapy and agree to coordination of care between providers.  Dr. Adi Avivi co-leads this group with Dr. Workman.
